Ceylon Cinnamon Chips (cinnamomum verum), originating from Sri Lanka, have a  mild spice with subtle warming qualities. Cinnamomum verum is a small evergreen tree native to tropical southern India and Sri Lanka, growing from sea level to almost 3,000 feet.

In Ayurveda, cinnamon bark from Cinnamomum verum is considered a warming herb that is stimulating to the heart yet cooling to the digestive system.

Cinnamon has been enjoyed since ancient times, mentioned in not only the Bible, but also in Egyptian texts. It was widely traded thousands of years ago in Europe and in Asia by Arab spice traders. Its uniquely sweet and delicious flavor and warming, uplifting aroma have been utilized in countless confectionaries, baked goods, perfumes, cosmetics, beverages, and cordials. Sweet cinnamon, often referred to as “true cinnamon”, has a more subtle, delicate, and sweet flavor than the closely related cassia cinnamon.

“True cinnamon,” or Cinnamomum verum, is extracted from the crumbly inner bark of the Ceylon cinnamon tree.

The health benefits of Ceylon cinnamon have a broad range from antioxidant to anti-inflammatory to anti-cancer properties. It can help with the cardiovascular system, allergies, inflammatory diseases such as cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, neurodegenerative, and heart diseases. It can also be beneficial in pain management, reducing muscle soreness and menstrual or age-related pain. It is antibacterial, neuroprotective, antidepressive, can help regulate blood sugar, and be good for the hair and skin!

Remember: a little goes a long way!! You don't need much of this powerhouse spice to reap the benefits. Please do not consume more than a teaspoon per day.
